My vision statement is to provide educational value in the music classroom, I feel like sometimes as a music educator, music is very looked down on as not useful or or a waist of time. I want help individuals release what skills can be developed from practicing and participating in music experiences, skills like multitasking, quick reflexes, communication without words, and teamwork. When people think about music I don't think they realize that these are all very popular qualities in music, however, these are also just the edge of the surface.
Something else I would very much like to implement in the classroom is removal of aggression. Something I noticed a lot through my older years of high school and middle school is, lots of aggressive teenagers. I felt like this is just the beginning of developing a hateful and aggressive personality. So many people walk into the world today with their hands up ready to fight, but not everybody is trying to fight them. I want to teach them how to approach one another with a smile and a "how are you?".I really want to help my students not just learn about music but learn how music can help them develop in these aspects. Because when they grow into adults, they might not know how to finger a G on a trumpet or how to sing a melodic minor scale, but they will remember the times they had when they were kids doing those things and the ways that those experiences helped them become better listeners and team workers.
